The Dreamscape

The Dreamscape

Where imagination and matter meet.
A realm of memory and magic, nonsense and nightmares-

The meteor struck Central Park. The dazzling purple light embedded itself in the heart of the it, as big as a truck, and as powerful as bomb. But it doesn't destroy.. it creates. The curious rock somehow manages to latch onto the minds of all those surrounding it and bring their wildest thoughts visions and fantasies to life.

But only so many minds can collaborate peacefully… Chaos unleashed as realms only meant to manifest in dreams took up residence in New York City. And soon this chaos will spread… it’s up to you to get to the heart of the madness and find a way to make it stop!

The Dreamscape is a theme park designed to inspire creative problem solving and a thirst for adventure for young teenagers and adults. More akin to a horror theme park, it is open from evening till dusk, and requires a good deal of interaction between guests and actors. The park itself is plotted out to look like a miniature version of Central Park, with a massive purple meteor glowing at its center.

The entrance to the park is a dark tunnel, filled with lights and sound effects to immerse the visitors in an turbulent transition from the mundane reality we live in, to a world where your wildest dreams and scariest nightmares exist. Lights flash, the sounds of thunder car horns and strange animals boom, and suddenly the tunnel ends.

The visitors are greeted by men and women in purple robes, a militia of sorts that strives to keep the mayhem under control- but don’t want to remove the power of the meteor entirely. From there, equipped with maps and guides the visitors can explore freely.

The world is strange and mysterious, yet somehow familiar. Urban buildings sprawl up high on the outskirts of the park, but lack proper proportions- windows are too big, bricks and glass don’t quite look like they are the proper shapes or colors… Even the trees are strangely curled, boulders have faces, and lamp posts cast strange colors on the floor.

There are two ways to explore the plot of this park: clockwise, and counterclockwise:

Clockwise: WAKE UP

To choose this route is to pursue an end to the chaos the meteorite created. Along your path you’ll meet several actors that are hellbent on returning the city to its former, safer, glory. The first quadrant is a carnival, soaked in backlights to cast an eery purplish white glow. This is the visitors first encounter into the dark side of the park. Strange creatures with eyes for heads loom about, staring at you and urging visitors to enter one of the several fun fair attractions. A maze of mirrors will challenge your courage under pressure in the dark, a funhouse obstacle course tests your perseverance to find a way out, and a trivia escape room will lead you out towards the next quadrant of the park. Should you opt not to partake in the escape room there is another tunnel that will lead you on the rest of your journey.
*Succeeding through the escape room will earn you a ticket.

After making it through Spooksville, a portion of the park completely corrupted by dark thoughts, visitors will be greeted by Kitt Daring, a peppy young artist who wants nothing more than to set the world straight again. She’ll ask you questions about where you’re from, how you keep your imagination in check, and give you tips on where to continue your journey. Most importantly, she’ll share with you clues as to how to dismantle the meteor. She has already tried herself and failed, but she’s picked up an arsenal of important information on her journey back to the outskirts of Central Park.
*Asking particularly clever questions may earn you a ticket

Her tips will lead you to The Coaster, a high speed rollercoaster that tips dramatically between reality and dream- the ride weaves in and out of tunnels the entire ride, continuing with the effects used in the tunnel entrance.

Each ride and attraction in the park will reveal clues to the nature of the meteor, the good and bad its creates, and potentially how to destroy it.

There are several smaller rides in this area as well. Lurking somewhere here is Gabe Gama, a clever writer and game enthusiast who dons a purple robe like the men and women who greeted you at the entrance. He’ll try to entice you with reasons to join his cause- namely, keeping the meteor safe. In exchange for tickets you have collected so far, you can earn small prizes or discounts in the next quadrant. Refusing his offers will shut him up, and he’ll grumpily make his way elsewhere.

The third quadrant is mainly a rest area, filled with several strange versions of the well known eateries in or surrounded the real Central Park, and two 4D rides. One ride lets you experience the day the meteor struck, the origin story of the strange world you now inhabit. Both Kitt and Gabe make appearances, exploring their new abilities and processing the power destruction and responsibility that comes with it.
The other ride allows you to choose to participate as a Dreamer, purple robes, sympathizer, or as a Waker, one who wants to destroy the meteor. Once the audience has been divided, seats are taken. Small controllers allow you to participate in The Battle of the Dreamers, the standoff that took place and led to the formation of the Dreamers and Wakers. The outcome of this experience is different every time, depending on the participants. Neither option changes the course of history, but it does allude to more of what has happened here. Information that may come in use later…

Between this area and the next are more humanoid creatures with eyes for heads. They wear crisp suits and don briefcases, and approach you with riddles. They’ll try their best to keep you from pursuing the meteor, like bees swarming to protect their hive.

The last quadrant is The Impact Site. Strange creatures of fantasy roam, Dreamers and Wakers pick fights with one another every so often. Eye-men lurk.

The meteor itself is an escape room, and the tickets collected thus far can be exchanged for helpful hints by your guide, an actor of your choosing Dreamer or Waker, who will lead you through each step of the game.

There are several difficulty levels that can be chosen, and in the event that your team successfully makes it through the meteorite, there are exclusive prizes only available to those who “Woke up the world” or “Protected our dreams.”

Counter Clockwise: DREAM ON

For visitors who chose to take the counter clockwise path, and thereby choose the side of The Purple Robes, a much more passive albeit more surreal adventure is in store.

There are no rides on this path, but there are several attractions. Unlike the clockwise path which is divided into four pieces, the attractions are strung along the path seemingly at random. Like the clockwise path, this path also begins with dark undertones.

The first several attractions are games of chance or strength, and the visitors are egged on by strange creatures to participate. The games are made to be out of the players controls, elements commonly associated with reality. But as the visitor progresses through the park there games become more about intellect and problem solving. Several escape rooms and trivia booths are open, manned by witches and monsters and peculiar people. Succeeding in these encounters will earn you tickets.

Before reaching the meteorite there is a large lake; there is a bridge that crosses it, that connects to quadrant three from the Clockwise Route, and also a ferry boat that pays homage to Spirited Away and the scene that delivered spirits to the bathhouse. Aboard the ship are Dreamers who will encourage you to keep the meteor from being overtaken by Wakers. Once you’ve docked, it is time to save that big purple rock.
