Panic in Pompei: Familiars in the Flames

Using the documentation of Pliny the Younger’s accounts of the events that led to the catastrophic destruction of Pompei, players will be given the daunting task of figuring out a way to keep the end of the world from happening.

The first signs marking the presence of the volcanic eruptions of Mount Vesuvius  took place a mere day after The Festival of Vulcan, the Roman deity blacksmith and god of fire, otherwise known as Vulcanalia. Before curiosity can turn to panic the priestesses of Vulcan’s temples assemble to channel their power and end the wrath of their god before it can begin. Each goddess possess a familiar, an animal that channels their powers, and extend their life forces through them to tame the flames. Each player can choose their own animal, be it a mundane or fantastical beast, and use that animals natural attributes along with the attributes of the priestess of their choosing, to combat a series of mythical creatures and foes to save Pompei.

As the days leading up to the death of nearly 16,000 people the challenges will become more deadly- and at the discretion of the Game Master players may die. Players will be able to bargain with Pluto (otherwise known as Hades in Greek mythology) to save Pompeii, or as a means to return to the game alive. Pliny the Youngers accounts of his uncle, Pliny the Elder (who made a valiant effort to save people fleeing from Pompeii on a boat), will serve as a guide for the game.
